Case Study
Active filter product lines used in data center HVAC or water/wastewater plants, for example, use multiple protocols to communicate from devices to various networks of equipment.
In harmonic guard applications, they need to connect an HMI that sends data using Modbus RTU while the end-use network of equipment is primarily using Modbus TCP or EtherNet/IP. In motor shield applications, the ask was to connect a Modbus RTU board and a network of equipment using EtherNet/IP.
The customer was looking for an “all-in-one” solution that addressed their connectivity needs, was simple to use and was cost-effective.
3
The customer selected the 2 serial, 2 ethernet port Universal Industrial Gateway model due to it being easy to use and quick to set up. The other selling points were that the UIG offered multiple ports and supported the various protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU) at a very low cost.
The UIG addressed each of their needs in a single box rather than the customer requiring multiple products that supported individual protocols.
4
The customer now has an all-in-one solution rather than buying and stocking one-to-one protocol gateways for each specific use.
“While other brands provide products that offered some of the features of the UIG, it always came at a premium cost and required re-programming with our equipment. With the UIG, we now have one part number that supports all our protocol needs and is very easy to use.”
The Best Way to Upgrade Your System
Seamless Transition
- Modernize your networks and retain your legacy devices
- Put legacy devices back to good use
- Control what you upgrade and when you upgrade
- Control the migration from one brand to another
- Integrate a machine where you cannot modify the PLC ladder code
- Get up and running faster and reduce training costs
